The Kidda Band -The Gigs

The Kidda Band

The first ever Kidda Band live gig happened on xx ???? 1977.

This show set in motion over 7 years of live shows that finally ended with a We're Only Human farewell show at the Pied Bull in Islington, North London in 1985. In between these dates the band, in it's various guises played over 2500 live shows across the UK.

Until the release of their first album in September 2000, these live shows were the only way to appreciate the songs how they were meant to be heard. Recording studios and producers over the years had failed to better the live sound, or those tracks recorded in the rehearsal studio with a couple of microphones, the live mixing desk and  a hired stereo reel-to-reel machine.

The band loved playing live and would play as often as they could, and in 1979 they played over 250 gigs in the space of those 365 days. Not a bad live record and that year wasn't that unusual.

The Rock Garden was the first London venue that the band played and four coaches, full of fans from Nuneaton and the surrounding area, followed them to London to see them.

Most other major London venues followed including The Marquee, Dingwalls, The Venue and The Hope & Anchor to name just a few.

Outside of London the story was the same. The band played most of the well known music venues of the time, including The Granary in Bristol, AJ's in Lincoln and JBs in Dudley amongst others.

Latterly, the band also enjoyed a spell on the London pub venue circuit in the early days at places such as The Golden Lion (Fulham), The Ad Lib (Kensington) and The Clarendon (Hammersmith).

Over the life of the band, a number of support slots were also arranged with The Beat, Bad Manners, Radio Stars and The Troggs amongst others. The only constant throughout  all of these shows was that the Kidda Band blew every one of them off the stage.

A few of the posters from these gigs can be seen here (see left and below) but is is just a small selection from the many that were produced over those hectic seven years.

If you attended any of those shows over the seven years - then thanks for your support, and why not drop us a line to tell us about your memories of it.
