Sparky Plug and the Sockets

12 July 1978

Thrown together as a support act for The Heather Lines and the Lyrics show at the Cherry Tree in Nuneaton. Kidder stepped back onto the drum stool while Alan took on rhythm guitar duties while Les remained on bass guitar.

Lead guitar duties were handled by Les and Johns little brother Mick, who was later to resurface in The Kicks as a replacement on lead guitar for Dave Lister

As the Cherry Tree was a Kidda Band favourite, the poster (on the right) was aimed at getting as many irate Kidda Band fans along on the night, to face a shock when they got there.

The only picture that exists of the band (on the left) was taken during a break from rehearsals, which were held in the Kidda Bands usual St Johns ambulance hut surroundings.

Heather Lines and the Lyrics

12 July 1978

Heather Lines became a local celebrity in Nuneaton as a result of her, at the time, unusual dress sense and hairstyles.

She was also friends with various members of the band,  and when she decided that she wanted to put a band of her own together it was The Kidda Band who she turned to for help.

Rather than go through hours of tedious rehearsals with tone deaf guitar players and rhythm-less drummers she invited them along to the show for a "if you can play as well as these guys then we can talk" induction process.

Clearly none of those who turned up on the night felt that they could, as her band never materialised.

Once again, Kidder stepped back onto the drum stool, Alan took on rhythm guitar and backing vocals while Les remained on bass guitar.

Lead guitar duties were once again handled by Les and Johns little brother Mick.

The band photos seen here were mainly taken on Kidders camera by Johnny. Except the one on the left which sees Johnny in shot and Kidder behind the camera.
