The Kicks  Photo Call

The Kicks

198? to 198?

These photos show were taken at the main photo session for  The Kicks.

The session was held in Howard Mews in Islington North London. The significance of the shoot was that the band were all living in 1 Howard Mews along with Kidder and also Kevan from the road crew

In the first photograph (above) we see Tarky, John, Les, Mick and Alan standing in the road leading to the four houses in Howard Mews.

The second photo shows the band on the balcony of the first floor bedroom. This bedroom was where John, Les, Mick and Kevan slept, which probably explained why the band were keen to be out late at night gigging!!!. The other rooms had Alan and Kidder in one and Tarky being the  man to have a room to himself......with the rest of the band claiming that the should have gone to someone who actually pulled a lot!!

The third photo is the main photo shot used by The Kicks at this time. A close cut shot than the others it was preferred by everyone. The obvious error with the photograph is the amazing disappearing wall behind Les, which makes the photo look a little strange.

The final photograph in the session shows the band lined up alongside the trusty band Ford Transit.

The band leased the van from the management company March Music at the time, and this became a bone of contention later when the relationship between the manager (Ric Lee - ex drummer of  Ten Years After) and the band soured.

Each member of the band also took part on a session of individual photographs on the same day as the main band photo shoot.

Alan is seen here (see left) in the shot chosen for his individual marketing photograph.

John and Les' chosen shots can be seen below, John on the right and his brother Les on the right.

Tarky and Mick were also photographed at the same session, but the passage of time has meant that copies of their photos have been lost forever.....
